• VPN — included via a partnership, with 500MB per day on the standard plan. Unlimited VPN available as an add-on. Not a dedicated VPN service and not recommended as a NordVPN replacement, but adequate for occasional public Wi-Fi protection.
• Password Manager — stores and syncs passwords across devices. Works in major browsers. Lacks some features of dedicated password managers like 1Password but covers the essentials.
• Secure Data — encrypts sensitive files and folders using AES-256 encryption. Files can only be accessed with your password. Useful for protecting financial documents, contracts, or personal records on shared or portable devices.
• Connected Home Monitor — scans your home Wi-Fi network for connected devices and identifies security vulnerabilities on your router and smart devices. Useful for households with many IoT devices.
• Anti-Theft — available on Windows and Android. If a device is lost or stolen, you can remotely lock it, locate it on a map, take a photo using the front camera, and wipe sensitive data.
• Parental Controls — available as a separate ESET Parental Control app, linked to your subscription. Filters websites by category, sets time limits, and tracks location on Android and iOS.

The interface: powerful but not for everyone

ESET's interface divides opinions. Security professionals love it because it exposes the full depth of the product's capabilities — every setting is accessible, every detection layer is configurable, every log is readable. Users who want to install and forget will find it more complex than Norton or Bitdefender. The main dashboard is clean enough, but the Settings panel rewards exploration and can feel overwhelming on first encounter.

ESET has improved usability significantly in recent versions. The setup wizard is straightforward, the default configuration provides strong protection without any adjustment, and the most common tasks — running a scan, checking threat logs, updating definitions — are accessible in two clicks. Advanced configuration is available for those who want it, not forced on those who do not.

Platform coverage

ESET covers Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux. The Linux support is a genuine differentiator — ESET HOME Security Premium includes a fully-featured Linux desktop client, not just a command-line scanner. For households or small offices with Linux machines alongside Windows computers, this is meaningful. The Mac application is excellent: ESET has invested in its Mac product more than most competitors. The Android app covers antivirus, anti-theft, anti-phishing, and call blocking. iOS support is limited to a VPN and browser safety tool.

Pricing: fair across the board

ESET HOME Security Premium is priced higher than Bitdefender and Norton in year one. The renewal price is close to the introductory price — ESET's renewal gap is among the smallest in the industry. Users who stay with ESET for several years end up paying less cumulatively than users who have to fight Norton's renewal pricing annually. For users who value price predictability and do not want to play the cancel-and-resubscribe game, ESET's pricing model is genuinely more honest.

Who is ESET for — and who is it not for?

ESET is for users who want the best possible detection, are comfortable with a slightly more involved interface, and value a product from an independent European company with no ownership ties to US or Russian corporations. It is particularly right for power users, small business owners protecting their own computers, and anyone who has been compromised before and wants the most rigorous protection available.

It is less right for users who want to install once and never think about it again (Bitdefender's Autopilot is better for that), users who need comprehensive parental controls built in (Norton is easier), or users on very tight budgets (ESET is priced at a premium).

The bottom line

ESET HOME Security Premium is the product security researchers recommend to people who ask what they personally use. The NOD32 engine's track record is unmatched. The performance impact is minimal.
